The school will open August 29, 2001 with 9th grade students. These cadets will be honored to be the first DAPSS graduates in 2015!
What is The Delaware Academy’s special focus?
The Delaware Academy will prepare students for success in college and in life by focusing on careers in the field of public safety and security.
What types of careers are available in the public safety and security field?
First responders include Emergency Medical Technicians, firefighters, police officers (including the FBI and Secret Service) and all supporting roles. Skills learned at DAPSS will also be helpful to cadets who elect to pursue other professions or occupations, including careers in the Armed Forces, government, nursing and healthcare, and many others.
Who can go to The Delaware Academy?
Any age/grade appropriate student willing to learn and apply the DAPSS core values of Fidelity to others, Diligence to succeed and Scholarship in the classroom is encouraged to enroll. Students must accept both uniform attire and behavior expectations.
Where is the school?
Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security is located at, 179 Stanton Christina Rd. Newark, DE 19702 near the Christiana Mall. (School is located on the campus of Faith City Family Church—no affiliation).
What if I’m not sure what career I want?
In 9th grade, students will work with teachers, mentors in the public safety and security fields and others to help explore career options which may be a good fit for them. If students change fields, or even decide to pursue an entirely different type of career, the skills and character traits fostered at DAPSS will be a great asset in all their future endeavors.
Do students have to wear uniforms?
Yes, all students will wear uniforms.
